    The proposed amendments to the EMDG Bill will have a detrimental effect on business events in Australia by reducing the number of international delegates and hence reducing the export revenue and the indirect benefits business events provides to the Australian economy.     Ton van Amerongen, Chair of BECA and CEO of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre addressed the TTF Business Events Forum Breakfast at AIME. Ton discussed the need for education of government and the wider community on the value of business events and he overviewed the business events policy agenda developed by BECA.

  • BECA Appoints New Chair

    Ton van Amerongen to Chair Business Events Council of Australia

    The Business Events Council of Australia (BECA) has announced the appointment of Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen as its new Chair.

    The position was confirmed at a BECA Board meeting in Sydney on Friday, which also saw Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre General Manager Bob O’Keeffe made Treasurer. Adelaide Convention Bureau CEO Damien Kitto will retain his position as Deputy Chair.

  • There is nothing like Australia for business events

    Tourism Australia has launched a new integrated campaign aimed at corporate meeting and event planners as part of a broader strategy to grow Australia’s high yielding business events sector to as much as A$16 billion by 2020.
    Launched at AIME 2012 in Melbourne, the campaign comes off the back of strong growth in the business events sector.
    The multifaceted and digital campaign, including a new website (www.businessevents.australia.com), follows in the footsteps of Tourism Australia’s consumer marketing campaign, There’s nothing like Australia, and continued strength in business arrivals to Australia. For the first time Tourism Australia will consistently use the campaign positioning for all business events marketing activity.
