  • Convention Arrival Figures December 2013

    Unlike the annual figures December 2013 showed a strong performance against prior years with total arrivals at 13,700, up from 10,500 in 2012. It was not sufficient to see annual results increase the levels of expectation but does shine a glimmer of hope on the beginning of 2014.

    November figures are the lowest they have beensince 2009 with the prior three years showing esults between 200 and 2,400 better than 2013.

    Tourism Australia noted that convention arrivals have softened in the month and unfortuntaely this is true. September has not demonstrated the strong growth hoped for. This  total arrivals for convention were 15,900 which was down on the August total by 1,900.

  • 2012 State of the Industry Report

    The BECA State of the Industry report is produced annually to measure the performance of the industry and track progress against a number of key performance indicators. BECA Executive Manager Inge Garofani said a majority of the key performance indicators showed continued growth for the industry, which had now recovered from the impact of the recent Global Financial Crisis. “The business events industry is in a strong and healthy state at the close of the 2012 year,” Ms Garofani said.

  • Convention Arrival Figures August 2013

    Following a small drop in July figures, down to 14,200, August has shown a return to strong arrivals with 17,800 arrivals. This is the second highest result for the last six years and is the highest result since November 2012

  • TTF Report: The Value of Business Events

    The Tourism and Transport Forum have released a report which outlines the value of the business events industry 2003 - 2020.

    The report states that in 2012, the value of business events to the economy was estimated at $24 billion building on the NBES 2005 figure of $17 billion and by 2020 the industry is forecast to be valued at $31 billion.

  • Convention Arrival Figures June 2013

    June again was a strong month with a total of 15,000 arrivals for conventions. This is up on the prior two years and higher than 2009 and 2008. 2010 was the only other year with figures higher than 2013 for the month of June.

    Convention arrival figures for December are significantly up on prior years with a total of 10,500 arrivals over 7,200 in 2011. The December figures was more than half that of November in 2012 compared to 2011 where the December figure was one-third of the November figure.
